Muslims hug one another after Eid prayer to mark the end of Ramadan. Eid ul Fitr, celebrated this year on September 20, is one of the two major holidays in the Islamic calendar. Muslims start off Eid day with prayers in congregation at masjids and banquet halls. Some locations need to arrange for two or three different prayer times to accommodate the huge turnout. The special but optional prayer is followed by a sermon. Men, women and children look forward to attending the Eid prayer in their finest clothes. Many Muslims take the day off from work or school and spend it visiting relatives and exchanging gifts and confectionery.
