She was arrested for contempt of court and sentenced to ten days in jail after she refused to remove her scarf or Hijab. This incident was not the first in Georgia’s courts. Last year, Aniisa Karim, another Muslim, was barred from a Valdosta court for not removing her headscarf. Hijab continues to be a fault line in Muslim-non-Muslim relations.
