More than 1,000 Muslims from Illinois descended on the State Capitol on April 22 to meet with legislators and advocate for issues important to all citizens. The second annual Illinois Muslim Action Day, spearheaded by The Council, proved to be a resounding success. Muslims, young and old, immigrant and indigenous, made the 3-hour long trip to advocate for assisting those in danger of having their homes foreclosed, ridding low-income communities of food deserts, introducing strategic languages in public schools and preserving services for immigrant communities.
